Monstrous!

What kind of animal would deface this monument to man's barbarism and human suffering by stealing this sign? The "Arbeit Macht Frei" sign was stolen from the gate of the Auschwitz death camp sometime between 3:30 and 5:00 a.m. today. Museum staff are quite properly calling it a "desecration."
Polish authorities have offered a paltry 5,000 zloty reward (roughly $2000).

Hmmm... Such a powerful symbol and newspeak message. I toured Auschwitz when I was in Poland a few years back. The entry sign was one of many "monuments to barbarism" on display. For me, one of the more disturbing was the shoes.

The 5000 zl is bigger than it may seem by our standards but maybe some groups will add to the reward. Maybe they should draw upon the many photos and just recreate the sign. Use the reward money to fight today's tyranny.

My father served in the British Armed Foreces during WWII. He was one of the men who liberated Bergen-Belsen. He was not ever able to get rid of the picture of all the shoes from his mind. All concentration camps saved the shoes. Still, we have idoits who think the halocaust didn't happen.
