They Would Say That

"As long as Afghanistan is not able to ensure
by itself the security in the country,
the artificial timelines of withdrawal are not correct
and they should not be set
- Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov

Russia says Western forces have no business getting out of Afghanistan by 2014.   No, we should stay in Afghanistan until Afghan forces are able to ensure the country's security all on their own.  In other words, until Hell freezes over.

The NATO sec-gen and Afghan DefMin responded to Lavrov, the first essentially saying "a deal is a deal", referring to our retreat withdrawal agreement with Karzai, while the latter said Afghanistan's post-2014 fate probably won't be as bad as just about everyone expects.
