Real Women Don't Fancy John Baird

I never thought I'd wind up sympathizing with John Baird but I do now.

Real Women of Canada has their 'size wholesome' knickers in a bunch over Baird's criticism of countries such as Russia and Uganda for passing laws targeting homosexuals.

RWoC accuses Baird of abusing his office in pursuit - wait for it - of "his own special interests." (wink, wink/nudge, nudge)

Oh, poor John.   He finally stands up for principle and winds up getting his leg gnawed off by a pack of social conservative tire biters.

It is a fact, that homosexual activists in Canada are intolerant of any resistance to their demands, and, as such have become a tyrannical minority.

Conscientious objections based on religion and traditional values have led, in Canada, to public officials, educators and business owners facing heavy fines and lengthy court battles for rejecting the homosexual lifestyle.  This is not democracy.  It is not equality.
This is the strange, intolerant world Mr. Baird wishes to impose on sovereign countries, despite their own cultures and religion which find this unreasonable and unacceptable.

LanDolt
Gwendolyn Landolt, National Vice-President, stated, “Just who does John Baird think he is, using taxpayers’ money to promote his own personal agenda and endeavouring to set standards of the laws of foreign countries?  He argues that homosexual rights are a ‘Canadian value’, but this applies only to himself and his fellow activists and the left-wing elitists.  These are not conservative values and that of grass roots Canadians, who after all, pay the bulk of the taxes”.

Wow, my goodness.   I wasn't aware that rabid homophobes paid "the bulk of the taxes" in Canada.   See, you do learn something new every day.   Don't these Real Women have something better to do, like squeezing out babies or making their husbands a lovely sandwich?

Well, this is a new experience for me as well, Mound, actually feeling some empathy for a Harper cabinet member.

Ii was just saying the other day to my wife that I don't think there has been any hypocrisy on the issue of gay rights from the government, so the question of individuals' sexual orientation is not relevant to any kind of informed discourse.

While the Real Women's attack is not that surprising, it does illustrate a real lack of class on their part.

Wow!! Your last paragraph MOS is just as offensive.

Oh they're a classy bunch alright, Lorne. When it comes to social conservatism, they've got the whole enchilada.

And yes, Anon, I was sure someone would find my satirical barb offensive. Sorry, don't care.

Well the Reform attack dogs have slipped their leashes and are running amok, even biting the ankles of Conservative Ministers engaged in pursuing their government mandates, as opposed to covering up assorted Conservative misdeeds and crimes.

It is ironic that the rabid Reform base has discovered the virtue of "sovereignty" for Uganda, Kenya and Russia while becoming quite belligerent and annoyed when Canadians question the Harper government's irrational obsession in seeking to strengthen Canada's colonial dependence with respect to the institutions of Great Britain.

It is likewise ironic that this cult of imperialist adventurers, of police and military worshippers, well at least those fit for battle as opposed to the injured, now find the wherewithal to complain that the Minister of Foreign Affairs "cannot and must not undermine other countries’ sovereignty and dignity, rooted in stable family structures and religious faith, in order to impose his own value system on them".

Wasn't that the propaganda excuse behind the military adventure in Afghanistan, that "Canadian values" and universal human rights trumped the oppressive and backward "stable family structures and religious faith" of primitive peoples.

She had meant to write Christian faith as opposed to "religious faith" but that would appear to make our Reform family value objectors somewhat too bigoted and narrow minded in their bigotry.

Now the Reform contributors operating under a mask of anonymity on media discussion boards feel no such restrictions, they openly advocate war to eradicate 1.5 billion muslims off the face of the planet or similar violence against other groups and minorities they perceive as hostile to their "values and lifestyle" ...

Easy to envision that Landolts criticism would be the exact opposite if Baird failed to stand up for these so called grassroots conservative values if these were under attack in a foreign country. Groups of the Real Women ilk are often found in foreign countries lobbying and influencing decision makers. Really, who is she trying to fool.

"Real Women Don't Fancy John Baird"
Well John Baird don't fancy real women so there's a sense of balance.

BTW, your last paragraph essentially sums up the worldview of Real Women so anon1 can pound salt.

Yikes - it's misleading enough when he's portrayed as the most popular parliamentarian, please let's just avoid painting Mr. Baird as a "victim". There's a reason Mr. Harper's been keeping him out of the country . . .

This is the ultimate irony. The Harperites are eating their own.

I think the Harperites and their supporters, suffer from the psychological condition of projection.

"Psychological projection was conceptualized by Sigmund Freud in the 1890s as a defense mechanism in which a person unconsciously rejects his or her own unacceptable attributes by ascribing them to objects or persons in the outside world." (wikipedia)

They should seek help now, while the universal health care system, which they are trying to destroy, is still largely intact.

In the social world, 'megalomania...can be a characteristic of power-drunk or control-freak dictators, some executives, some politicians and some army generals'

In 2005 Harper proclaimed that if elected, he would pass legislation re Marriage as the union of a man and a woman ..

http://creekside1.blogspot.ca/2013/08/real-women-supports-russian-family.html

Now.. only 8 years later he's 'forked' an old chess term.. can't move, no wiggle room.. damned if he does, damned if he don't .. he's f'd in modern terms!

The demi-closeted Baird.. and seemingly other closeted, odd or different 'ministers' must seethe at being forced to countenance creeps and bigots like Toews or Fantino .. or the so called 'Conservative Base' and the Reform troglodytes .. or being 'whipped' on certain votes

But that's what narcism .. omnipotence is all about.. You just make it up as you go along to get along.. again and again.. deny, lie, obstruct, litigate .. fabricate..

Do it often enough and nobody can keep track !!

I would hope that the minister would avoid meeting with "Real Women" or giving any credence to them given the association and founder that the Real Women are known for.

Who is REAL Women of Canada?

Here are some of the things you should know about them:

One of their directors was Rita Ann Hartmann, who led the Ottawa-based Northern Foundation. Hartmann’s husband Paul was a Ku Klux Klan and Western Guard leader; two of their sons were active in the neo-Nazi Heritage Front in the Ottawa area.

Hartmann maintained connections with neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups across North America, such as the Confederate Hammerskins, while simultaneously acting as a legal advisor to REAL Women of Canada. At one early REAL Women conference in Ottawa, Hartmann gave an anti-abortion speech.

Later on, Wolgang Droege, the founder and leader of the Heritage Front ”The Northern Foundation was the start of it all for the Heritage Front. From that point on, things really took off.”

At no point have the REAL Women of Canada having denounced Hartmann or her involvement with neo-Nazi causes. Following the 1994 publication of Web of Hate, instead, REAL Women of Canada continued to promote bigotry and division, albeit less aggressively than their director Hartmann.

In the intervening years, then, REAL Women has consistently shown themselves to be anti-gay, anti-choice and anti-equality. There is plenty of evidence, for those who have the stomach for it.

So we suppose we shouldn't be surprised that an extremist group such as REAL Women who have been linked to racist terrorist groups (and terrorist is an appropriate term) would come out in favour of discriminatory laws targeting a minority they themselves hate.

Very interesting reactions. RWoC strikes some deep chords. Anon 6:40, I had no idea of that background. That explains a lot. That this group would rally to defend Uganada was pretty alarming. Gays did in Uganda and the country was toying with introducing a law that would make homosexuality a death sentence crime. Naturally, Uganda is also a favoured nation of America's radical Christian fundies.

Mr. Baird seems to be on a REAL march of his own and using his position to do it. It hasn't seemed to have occured to him, he is actually interfering in another countries decisions right or wrong, using his position to push his own agenda while trying to garnar votes, and/or patronage, especially in a brazen way for public purposes...am I off base here?

I think Baird is entirely right to be criticizing institutional homophobia wherever it exists. Uganda is a truly odious state. Lesbian sex is punishable by 7-years imprisonment. Gay sex can net a life sentence. They're considering the death penalty for repeated gay sex. The authorities often look the other way when gays are murdered in Uganada. There are wrenching accounts of children, having been outed, having to stay constantly on the run from parents who are out to kill them.

It's no coincidence that American Christian fundamentalists play a big role in the affairs of Uganda. They don't denounce the regime, they support it. So, too, does RWoC.

This is a very important matter of human rights and Baird is doing what a Canadian leader should do in condemning these anti-gay governments.
